THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Have you ever wondered where the saying "The Dog Days of Summer" came from? According to National Geographic, the "dog days" refer to the dog star, Sirius, and its position in the heavens.

In Greek and Roman times, the “dog days” occurred around the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, in late July. They referred to these days as the hottest time of the year, a period that could bring fever, war and other disasters.

And although the hottest days of the year shift depending upon location, little could we have known what the "dog days" would mean to all of us this year. We have certainly seen a lot of fever, and some would say a war. There has been plenty of time to reflect on the state of things and it is my sincere hope that we'll all come through this struggle stronger, wiser and more inclusive.

Please enjoy the rest of your summer and here's to a safe and healthy Labor Day!
